Vermont museum sets out to break astronomy lesson record

August 9, 2018

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont museum is seeking to break a world record for the largest astronomy lesson.

The Fairbanks Museum’s stargazing party is slated to be held Friday evening on Main Street in St. Johnsbury. The Caledonian-Record reports museum officials say they have received nearly all the commitments they need for volunteers to assist with crowd control, the head count and to meet the Guinness World Record requirements.

The hope is that well over 1,100 people will show up to listen to and participate in a 30-minute astronomy lesson delivered by museum educator Bobby Farlice-Rubio. The museum also plans a block part full of family-friendly activities to help fill out the afternoon.

Officials say they are keeping an eye on the weather and are optimistic.
