TULSA, Okla. — LeeAnne Pepper is among the more than a dozen Tulsa Public School administrators working as teachers across the city because for the third straight year, the state’s second-largest district didn’t fill all of its vacancies in time for school. The Oklahoma teaching shortage is showing no signs of slowing down despite the pay raise that just took effect for teachers. TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Area residents in need will soon have more opportunities to get staple items, as Sweetwater Foundation is making “Community Care Chests” available here. The “chests” are actually repurposed newspaper racks, and they will be filled with items ranging from food to school supplies to diapers. OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University has won at least one national team championship for 25 straight years. The last time the Stars didn’t win at least one title, the school year was 1992-93. Over the years, OCU has won 11 men’s golf titles, 10 in softball, nine in women’s basketball, nine in women’s golf, six in men’s basketball, four in men’s tennis, four in women’s wrestling, three in men’s cross country and once in baseball. EXCHANGE-TRIBAL FINANCE PROGRAM
STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University plans to offer a tribal finance and accounting certificate program. The university will hold an introductory pilot program during a consortium in November. The full kickoff is scheduled for May. The introductory level is ideal for people who do not have a finance or business background, such as elected officials or directors of different entities within the tribe.
