Man accused in father’s death detained pending trial
The Albuquerque man accused of stabbing his father to death will await trial behind bars, a judge ruled Tuesday.
Dominic Lucero-Sanchez, 25
Dominic Lucero-Sanchez, 25, is charged with an open count of murder in the death of 60-year-old Luis Sanchez.
Prosecutors said that neighbors heard a man calling for help and came outside to see Lucero Sanchez kneeling over his wounded father. He had been stabbed more than a dozen times in the chest and head.
Lucero-Sanchez’s attorney said in court that her client made statements indicating his father had attacked him. And she pointed out that neighbors arrived at the scene after the fact.
“We have absolutely no witnesses to this,” she said
But state District Judge Cristina Jaramillo opted to detain him based on the number of stab wounds, along with allegations that he used drugs and made statements to his father about stabbing someone.
