DE KALB, Ill. (AP) _ Tim Lester, who quarterbacked a Chicago-area high school to a state title, returned Saturday to throw three touchdowns and lead Western Michigan to a 21-13 victory over Northern Illinois.

The Broncos (2-1 overall, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) rallied from 7-0 and 13-7 deficits.

The Huskies (0-3, 0-2) had previously lost to 20th-ranked Kansas State 44-7 and Central Michigan 44-10.

Lester, a sophomore who starred at Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, found Corey Alston with a 32-yard TD pass in the second quarter to the tie the game 7-7. He passed for two third-period TDs, a 9-yarder to Nick Johnson and a 46-yarder to Kelcey Dudley.

Brian Clark kicked field goals of 39 and 17 yards in the second quarter for the Huskies, who got an opening-period touchdown run of 9 yards from Ivory Bryant.

Lester completed 10-of-22 passes for 136 yards, with one interception. He was sacked once.

Bryant carried 37 times 158 yards and Robert Sanford had 117 yards on 15 attempts for Western Michigan.
