Rockford man convicted of murder in road-rage killing

August 1, 2015

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A Rockford jury has found a local man guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of a motorist who was gunned down in what authorities called a case of road rage.

The Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/1M3QMMU ) reports that 35-year-old James Anderson faces a sentence of 45 years to life when he returns to court for sentencing next month.

During the trial, prosecutors contended that Anderson and 46-year-old Paul R. Ezop of Roscoe were driving separate cars when one of the vehicles cut in front of the other. They say Ezop was fatally shot when he climbed out of his vehicle and approached the other one.

One of Anderson’s attorneys said after Friday’s verdict there was no evidence linking Anderson to the shooting and he vowed to appeal the conviction.
