Cash Key holders face deadline decision
Cash Key owners have a decision to make.
The keys used to prepay for parking at downtown meters are being phased out, and owners have until Dec. 28 to claim a refund on any deposit paid.
Depending on when the key was acquired, a deposit of $12 to $25 was required.
Refunds can be claimed by turning in keys between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at the Rochester City Clerk’s desk in City Hall, 201 Fourth St. SE.
However, any funds remaining on the related accounts will not be returned, according to Rochester Municipal Parking.
For key holders wanting to continue using the funds associated with their keys, the city has postponed disabling the key function on parking meters.
Previously the city planned to disable keys with the start of the new year, but the decision was reversed. Still, key holders who choose not to return the keys by the year-end deadline will forfeit their deposits.
While Cash Keys are being phased out, the city is encouraging parkers to download the mobile pay app, Park Mobile, to pay for meter parking in downtown Rochester.
