Former Marine sentenced for killing friend in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A former Marine has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his friend in New Orleans more than two years ago.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reported 29-year-old Laurence McKee was sentenced Monday for his conviction in January on a charge of second-degree murder.
McKee had said the shooting of 25-year-old Justin Scott in 2016 was an act of self-defense as Scott attacked him. But a police investigator said the scenario McKee described was “highly unlikely.”
A doctor said Scott was shot in the back.
Criminal District Judge Tracey Flamings-Davillier rejected a request by McKee’s attorneys for a new trial before imposing the sentence.
