Fort Wayne fire investigators are determining the cause of a house fire that left a home heavily damaged during a thunderstorm Monday night.
Crews arrived at 10917 Sherrelwood Court about 10 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof, officials said.
One adult, two children and a family pet fled the two-story house and were outside when firefighters arrived, according to a news release.
It took crews about 40 minutes to get the fire under control. There were no injuries.
Monday EF-1 tornado confirmed in Warsaw
The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday an EF-1 tornado touched down in Warsaw at 8:27 p.m. Monday. The tornado landed 1.1 miles northeast of downtown Warsaw, just southeast of Pike Lake, traveled 4.1 miles and lifted about 8:35 p.m. around 5.2 miles east of downtown Warsaw, the weather service said.
At its peak, the tornado had estimated winds of 90 mph.
Numerous trees were uprooted or snapped, causing damage to several homes and cars because of flying debris, the weather service said.
Several power poles also snapped. Some homes also had minor roofing and siding damage, the weather service said.
The weather service is still assessing the damage.
