Goalkeeper Perin out of Italy squad, replaced by Marchetti
MILAN (AP) — Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin pulled out of the Italy squad with injury on Sunday and was replaced by Lazio’s Federico Marchetti.
Perin was forced off early in the second half of Genoa’s 1-0 defeat at Juventus on Sunday after injuring his right shoulder.
Italy travels to Bulgaria for a qualifying match for the 2016 European Championship on March 28, before hosting England in a friendly at the Juventus Stadium three days later.
Antonio Conte’s side is behind Croatia on goal difference at the top of Group H, with both sides having won three matches and drawn one.
Empoli playmaker Mirko Valdifiori, Sampdoria striker Eder and Palermo midfielder Franco Vazquez received their first call-ups to the Italy squad on Saturday.
Eder and Vazquez grew up in Brazil and Argentina respectively but have Italian passports.
Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli is also included for the first time since the World Cup, after recovering from a lengthy injury.
