BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) _ Doug Gilmour, weakened by a stubborn stomach virus, might not be strong enough to play in the Buffalo Sabres' playoff opener Thursday.

Gilmour, who missed the Sabres' last two regular season games, did not practice today as Buffalo prepared to open the playoffs at Philadelphia against the Eastern Conference's top-seeded Flyers.

Coach Lindy Ruff was concerned that even if Gilmour practiced, he might not be ready for action considering he's gone almost a week without skating.

``We've been trying to get fluids in him intravenously, but that (missing Thursday's game) is a chance,'' Ruff said. ``This is a day-by-day thing. He feels better, and the way things look he should be able to practice tomorrow.''

Gilmour, acquired in a late-season deal from Chicago, initially attempted to play through the ailment.
