Jim Tomsula says add salt to cheap beer; it will ‘change your life’
Washington Redskins defensive line coach and Homestead native Jim Tomsula has a beer tip for you.
Yes, it’s NFL preseason, and while teams are working on dollar and dime defensive packages, some analysis is about the other important things in life.
Speaking with Chad Ryan, editor of Redskins Capital Connection, a website the covers the team, the chat turned to beer. Ryan, who also lists himself as a beer drinker on his Twitter bio, is based in Melbourne, Australia, but was reporting from training camp in Richmond, Va.
Tomsula asked Ryan about Australian beer and then shared a tip with Ryan, who was kind enough to Tweet it for the world:
“Freezing cold PBR, and then put a pinch of salt in it. Change your life”
Tomsula was born and raised in Homestead and has been in football most of his life - though he’s had some other jobs. He was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers for one season in 2015 (after serving as an assistant for eight years) and is now in his second season with the Redskins.
During the off year between the 49ers and the Redskins jobs, he took some advice from his wife and changed his look.
“My wife said, ‘Man, you look old and scraggly. Get that off,’” Tomsula told the Washington Post in 2017. “Her and the daughters. I said, ‘Ok, let me shave that off.’ She said, ‘And by the way, you’ve been fat for 20 years. Lose some weight.’ So I got on a diet and shaved my mustache. I’m not dyeing my hair though.”
