WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Senate Judiciary Committee approved five nominations for federal judgeships Thursday, sending them to the full Senate for consideration.

The panel approved four nominees for U.S. District Court:

_Raner Christercunean Collins for the District of Arizona.

_Robert G. James for the Western District of Louisiana.

_Dan A. Polster for the Northern District of Ohio.

_Ralph E. Tyson for the Middle District of Louisiana.

The committee also approved John D. Kelly of North Dakota for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The nomination of Kim McLane Wardlow of California for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was not acted upon at the request of Sen. Jeff Session. The Alabama Republican said he needed more time to review her nomination.

More than 70 vacant federal judgeships across the country are waiting to be filled.
