Local team outlines response plan to address opioid crisis
BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A regional leadership team in Vermont has recommended a response plan to help combat the opioid crisis in Bennington.
The Bennington Banner reports the Bennington Leadership Team presented its plan to the Select Board earlier this month. Leaders outlined immediate, medium- and long-term goals.
The team plans to hire a health service coordinator and adopt an online resource center managed by United Counseling Services within six months of activating the plan. Officials want to build a recovery campus and community center over three years. The long-term goal is to create a collaborative organization.
Bennington Blueprint for Health Director Jennifer Fels says the response centers around prevention, treatment, recovery and criminal justice.
Organizers are talking with grant writers at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Democratic U.S. Rep. Peter Welch for funding.
