LOCAL COLLEGE: Scranton Softball Splits Doubleheader

The University of Scranton split a softball doubleheader with Misericordia University on Monday, losing the opener, 9-5, and winning the second game, 8-6.

Misericordia (10-4) erased a 5-1 deficit in the first game. The Cougars scored one run in the third and then took the lead with four runs in the fourth. Maddie Holub had a three-run double in the inning and finished with three hits and five RBIs. Maggie Donnelly had two hits, including a double, a run and an RBI for Scranton (7-5).

Scranton pulled ahead in the nightcap with a five-run fourth inning. Jennifer Sweeney had a three-run double in the inning for the Royals to build an 8-2 lead. Amanda Butera went 3 for 3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs for Misericordia.

Women’s lacrosse

Marywood scored the first 13 goals to roll to a 16-2 win over Keystone College.

Zoe Simeone had five goals for the Pacers (3-2) and Gina Babcock had a goal and three assists. Nisa Cortes and Alex Smith scored for Keystone (1-2).
