CHAMPAIGN — A second person injured in a head-on crash in Iroquois County in October has died.

Michael H. Strong, 56, of Watseka, was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. Saturday at Carle Hospital in Urbana, according to the Champaign County Coroner’s office. No autopsy will be performed, but an inquest might be held at a later date.

Strong was a passenger in a van operated by 82-year-old Howard R. Kissack, of Watseka. Kissack died at Carle Hospital on Oct. 19, two days after the accident occurred east of Sheldon on U.S. Route 24.

According to Illinois State Police District 21, Kissack’s van was westbound on Route 24 when it was struck by a pickup truck driven by Patricia J. Allford, 70, of Sheldon, at 1390 E Road on Oct. 17.

Allford was traveling eastbound behind a Freightliner semi-tractor trailer on Route 24. Allford attempted to pass the semi and struck Kissack’s van. Both vehicles then struck the rear of the semi.

Kissack was airlifted from the scene. Allford and Strong were airlifted from Iroquois Memorial Hospital.

Allford was issued a ticket for improper lane usage.

The driver of the semi, Daniel D. Morgan, 56, of Terre Haute, Ind., was not injured.
