Taiwan Police Confiscate Pirated Buddhist Statues
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) _ Police confiscated 556 Buddhist statues that a sculptor said were illegal copies of his work.
Police said they seized the wooden statues, including the Goddess of Mercy, the God of Warriors and the Guardian of Land, at a suburban shop Wednesday.
Sculptor Li Chin-wan said the statues were counterfeits of his copyrighted work.
Li’s statues sell for $960, about five times what the shop charged for the seized works, police said.
