Artist Robert Grimes to show at Kolva-Sulivan Gallery

December 24, 2018

Through his decades long career, artist Robert Grimes has been an instructor, designer, illustrator and jeweler.

Since 1999 however, Grimes has made art his full-time job.

Grimes, who moved to Spokane in 1995, received his BFA in painting from the University of Denver and an MFA in sculpture from Indiana University.

After moving to Spokane, he and his son opened a jewelry store in the Garland district. He displayed his own work on the walls, which eventually caught the attention of local artists like Harold Balazs, Ken Spiering and Mel McCuddin.

Grimes found representation at the Art Spirit Gallery in Coeur d’Alene in 1998, and the next year, Grimes was full speed ahead in focusing solely on his art.

In his first solo show in Spokane, “Times of Grimes” at the Kolva-Sullivan Gallery, Grimes will display a collection of his “art experiments,” a variety of dimensional wood pieces, oil paintings and etchings.

The exhibit runs from Jan. 3 through Jan. 26.

There will be an opening reception on Jan. 4 and a closing reception on Jan. 26, both from 4-8 p.m.
