Police: Months-long operation shuts down drug corners
SMYRNA, Del. (AP) — Police in Delaware say they’ve arrested nearly 40 people over the course of a year to shut down an open-air drug market.
Delaware State News reported Tuesday that the operation in Smyrna began in November and ended last Friday. Authorities said the months-long bust netted suspects who lived throughout the northern part of the state, from Dover to Wilmington.
Most of the charges were drug-related and involved the selling or possessing of marijuana, cocaine and heroin. But some weapons charges were filed as well.
Several underage teens were also cited for alleged offenses. They included one who police say was caught with a semi-automatic handgun.
Police said most of the illegal activity occurred on Lincoln Street. It was most prevalent on the corners of North and East Mount Vernon streets.
