Ruby McNamer, 85, of North Freedom

December 27, 2018

The beautiful and talented Ruby McNamer, 85, of North Freedom, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at St. Clare Meadows Nursing Home in Baraboo. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Davis Corners and graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School. Ruby’s first marriage was to Joseph A. Tangney from Briggsville; they made their home in Watertown. They had three children. Ruby’s second marriage was to Frederick D. McNamer. They were married for almost 50 years, living the majority of their life in the North Freedom area. The final three years were at St Clare Meadows. Together, Fred and Ruby enjoyed traveling, camping, and attending rendezvous throughout the state, living an Indian culture. Following their marriage, they lived several years in Steamboat, Colorado, before returning to Wisconsin. Together they owned the Melody House in downtown North Freedom. Ruby was a Sunday school teacher and organist for the North Freedom Methodist Church for 30 years. She taught piano lessons and volunteered her time to the North Freedom Fire Department raising funds. She enjoyed sewing and was the town seamstress and was the master of angel food cake and homemade divinity. Ruby loved living in North Freedom because she had the privilege of living a few blocks away from her sister, Norma Aylsworth, whom she loved so dearly. Ruby was kind-hearted and giving, was loved by all. She cherished her time with her daughters and grandsons most of all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick D. McNamer; and son, Joseph P. Tangney.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Palmer of Bozeman, Montana, and Trish (Miles) Reynolds of Lakewood, Colorado; and two grandsons, Press Scott Palmer of Baltimore, Maryland, and Joseph Ryan Jones of Lakewood, Colorado.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life in June.

A special thanks to Ed Aylsworth, Jan Lynch and Donna Luther for their love and support to Ruby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Freedom Methodist Church.
