Area seniors have the chance to get free Thanksgiving meal Thursday at the Smith-Hazel Recreation Center in Aiken.

The Palmetto State Law Enforcement Officers Association will host its annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Smith-Hazel, said Tara Holman, coordinator for the event.

Local law enforcement officers and community service organizations, including Aiken Public Safely, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Unified Riders Motorcycle Club and the Atomic Dogs Motorcycle Club will help serve the food.

The event will also feature greetings from local officials along with several other speakers, including a special forecast message to the seniors by Meteorologist Jay Jefferies, Holman said.

The Pre-Thanksgiving dinner has been a signature event in the community for over 30 years.

Smith-Hazel Recreation Center is located at 400 Kershaw St. N.E. in downtown Aiken.
