SCHOOL-GUN

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A custodian is accused of leaving a loaded handgun at the Career and Technical Education Academy in Sioux Falls and then lying about it. Authorities say Joseph Croal is charged with possession of a firearm in a school and false reporting to law enforcement. Police Capt. Blaine Larsen didn’t discuss a possible motive but said authorities don’t believe there was ever a threat to anyone at the school. SENT: 130 words. UPCOMING: 350 words.

WELL PROJECT BUST

BUFFALO, S.D. — Forty natural gas wells that were drilled from 2006 to 2010 among the grassy plains and buttes near the town of Buffalo have been idled since the project fell dormant amid a series of problems. They could cost more than $1 million to plug. One state lawmaker worries that the state might try to shift responsibility for some of the dormant wells to landowners. SENT: 130 words.
