Worcester police investigate moving-car shootout
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Worcester police are investigating after witnesses described seeing a scene straight out of a movie, with people hanging out the windows of moving cars and shooting at each other in broad daylight.
There were no reports of injuries following the shootout at about 5:45 p.m. Monday, and no area hospitals reported patients with gunshot wounds.
Police were first alerted to the shootout by the city’s Shotstpotter gunfire detection system.
Witnesses told investigators the shooters were either leaning out of or hanging out of the passenger windows of two dark-colored vehicles traveling in the same direction.
Police recovered several shell casings at the scene.
One vehicle believed to be involved was tracked down, but no arrests were announced.
Police think the parties were known to each other, and are investigating the motive.
