Ohio man gets 57 years for role in deadly Colorado shooting

August 2, 2018

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — An Ohio man has been sentenced to 57 years in prison for his role in a deadly shooting in northern Colorado.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports 21-year-old Michael Gresham was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in April to charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery in the August 2016 death of Devon Smeltz.

Authorities say Gresham and two others drove from Cincinnati to Colorado to purchase cocaine from Smeltz. The deal ended in a shooting at a Walmart parking lot outside Fort Collins.

Gresham apologized in court, saying he was “truly sorry for what happened.”

Lawrence Greggs, the shooter, was sentenced last month to 80 years in prison. Joshua Baker pleaded guilty to felony accessory to a crime and aggravated robbery. His sentencing is scheduled for next month.
