KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Kansas City Wizards secured the top seed in the Western Conference on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in the season finale for both teams.

Josh Wolff scored in the 23rd minute to help the Wizards (14-9-7, 49 points) grab the top spot in the West for the first time since 2000. Kansas City finished the season six points ahead of Los Angeles (11-9-10, 43 points).

The MLS playoffs begin Oct. 22.

Wolff scored his team-leading 10th goal, with a little help from teammate Jack Jewsbury. The midfielder faked around Galaxy defender Chris Albright and beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, but defender Ryan Suarez ran in from the far post and kicked the ball off the goal line. Wolff was left unmarked in front of the goal and cleaned up the rebound.
