Several Herd players honored
HUNTINGTON — With the regular season now completed, it was time for Conference USA to hand out some hardware to its outstanding players.
Many awards will head to Huntington after Marshall had 13 players recognized as all-conference performers, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Marshall placed four players on the All-Conference USA First Team: senior wide receiver Tyre Brady, junior safety Malik Gant, junior center Levi Brown and sophomore longsnapper Matthew Beardall.
Brady finished the regular season with 66 catches for 914 yards and a team-best nine touchdowns on the season.
Gant was second on Marshall’s defense in tackles (90), tackles for loss (9.0) and pass breakups (8) from his safety spot while adding a pair of interceptions and a sack to his credit as well.
Brown is a three-year starter at center for the Thundering Herd and helped orchestrate Marshall’s offensive line calls, which were in a new system under offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey, along with having a new position coach in Greg Adkins.
Beardall has also been consistent on snapping duties for the Herd’s special teams units, which are among the best in Conference USA.
Second-team honorees for the Herd include a pair of defensive linemen in senior defensive tackle Ryan Bee (33 tackles, 7.5
TFL, 4. 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) and junior defensive end Ty Tyler (41 tackles, 9.0 TFLs, 8.0 sacks, forced fumble). Cornerback Chris Jackson was also named to as a second-team selection after logging 59 tackles, 15 pass breakups and an interception.
Marshall matched Conference USA champion UAB for the most players on the first two teams in Conference USA with seven.
