Toledo 74, Akron 66
AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Casey Shaw and Craig Thames combined for 40 points and 74 percent shooting as Toledo beat Akron 74-66 Wednesday night in the Mid-American Conference.
Shaw had 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line and Thames made six of 10 shots from the floor and nine of 11 free throws for 21 points.
Toledo (9-6 overall, 3-4 MAC) led 33-30 at halftime. Akron, which lost for only the second time in eight home games, dropped to 7-8 and 3-4 to put the Rockets and Zips in a tie for seventh place in the MAC.
Toledo went ahead for good at 58-56 with 5:43 left on a Thames jump shot. Scoop Williams added a free throw and Baker had another jump shot to push Toledo’s lead to 61-56 with 5:01 to play.
The Rockets shot 62 percent for the game and held Akron to 37.5 percent from the floor.
Tron Jenkins led the Zips with 17 points and Lawrence Culver and Jason Taylor had 14 apiece.
