North Augusta man charged with murder in fatal shooting at apartment complex
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety has charged the suspect connected with the fatal shooting Tuesday at the North Augusta Gardens apartment complex.
Pheolian Neal, 22, is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Myikeem Harvey, of Augusta, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records.
Neal turned himself in to police Tuesday evening following the incident earlier in the afternoon.
Officers responded to the apartment complex at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday and, upon arrival, found Harvey sitting inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, said Aiken County Chief Deputy Coroner Darryl Ables.
Neal fled the scene before investigators arrived, but decided to turn himself in at the North Augusta Public Safety headquarters a few hours later, said Lt. Tim Thornton, with North Augusta Public Safety.
Neal was taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he was still being held Wednesday afternoon.
An autopsy for Harvey was scheduled for Wednesday in Newberry, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
The facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting are still part of an ongoing investigation, Thornton said.
