Lottery Winner Loses
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) _ Joseph Frontino thought he had won $10,000 in the state’s ″Big Spin″ lottery game, but he wound up empty-handed after a court gave all the winnings to the government and his ex-wife.
At a Superior Court hearing Tuesday, Frontino’s former wife, Karrie Ellen Larsen of San Luis Obispo, was awarded $3,000 for previously unpaid child support for their 14-year-old daughter, and Riverside and Butte counties got a total of $5,000 for welfare payment reimbursements. The federal government also took $2,000 for income taxes.
Frontino, 33, won the money Oct. 28 in the state’s first ″Big Spin,″ but Riverside County prosecutors won a court order holding the winnings until Tuesday. Frontino owed $11,600 in child support and welfare reimbursements , prosecutors said.
