Heard on the Street: Haley Comfort expands in plumbing with local acquisition

A Rochester home heating and cooling and more firm has added plumbing to its long list of offerings with the acquisition of a longtime Med City business.

Haley Comfort Systems, owned by Tom and Joe Haley, acquired Bob Gander’s Gander Plumbing and Heating firm this week. Gander and his staff now work out of Haley’s Rochester facility at 4320 U.S. 52 North.

Haley, which was founded in Plainview in 1990, is known for work including lighting, fireplaces, heating and cooling systems, stonework, tile and custom woodwork offerings.

Gander Plumbing has been providing plumbing and heating services to the Rochester area since 1966.

“We couldn’t be more excited to not only add plumbing to our list of services, but to have Bob Gander a part of the Haley Comfort Systems family,” said Tom Haley in the announcement of the deal. “He has successfully served the Rochester community for over 30 years, and to have him and this team here is going to be an excellent fit.”

Besides the Rochester showroom, Haley Comfort has a fabrication shop and custom woodworking facility in Plainview. In March, the firm sold its Hastings showroom to the Wisconsin-based Comfort By Design.

Haley’s website lists the firm has more than 70 employees on staff.

Biz buzz

Now that the fuse is lit on July, it is worth taking a look back at how hot Rochester-area real estate was in June.

Olmsted County saw 13 real estate deals of more than $1 million in June, most of which were in Rochester.

A seller’s market combined with decent Minnesota weather, topped off with the Destination Medical Center effect, spurred a lot of money and land changing hands in June.

Four of those June deals were worth more than $2 million. While most of the sales were for commercial buildings or apartment complexes, two were for single-family houses, and three were for open land.

There were more Olmsted County deals of more than $1 million in June than in May and April combined. May saw seven deals at that level and five in April.

Now we’ll see if July’s real estate market will burn even hotter — or if it will fizzle by comparison.
