Moldova spy boss: agency HQ spied on by foreigners
CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — Moldova’s chief spy says the agency’s Soviet-era headquarter is being spied on by foreign agents and asked the country’s lawmakers to find the agency a new building.
Mihai Balan, who heads Moldova’s Service of Intelligence and Security, did not name any country or group that could be snooping on the premises. But he said Thursday they were using “modern and sophisticated equipment” to do this.
The Soviet-era KGB headquarters in Moldova used the same offices when Moldova was a Soviet republic.
Moldova hopes to sign an association agreement with the European Union in November. The move is opposed by Russia.
