CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) _ Former Kentucky running back Chad Scott will transfer to North Carolina after playing two seasons for the Wildcats.

``I'm excited that Chad has decided to become a Tar Heel,'' UNC coach John Bunting said. ``He has strength, speed and with continued development here at Carolina, he can become an outstanding player.''

Scott played in 10 games as a freshman in 2001, leading the Wildcats in rushing with 611 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 261 yards.

He was named a first-team freshman All-SEC by the SEC Coaches.

An ankle sprain limited Scott in 2001, when he played in just eight games and finished the year with 210 yards on 36 carries. He also caught 15 passes for 114 yards.

Scott, a native of Plant City, Fla., will have to sit out the 2002 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
