Relay For Life starts Friday at WHS
The 2018 Relay For Life of Rock River will be held Friday and Saturday at the Watertown High School track, 825 Endeavour Drive, under the theme “Super Heroes.”
The event will begin with all relay teams gathering for the opening ceremonies Friday at 5 p.m. A fish fry and food hut featuring walking tacos, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, nachos, hot turkey sandwiches and sweet corn will be available starting at that time. A bounce house and children’s activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. A superhero meet-and-greet will be held at 6 p.m.
A survivor and sponsor ceremony, featuring 2018′s honorary cancer survivor Tammy Dowling, will take place at 7 p.m., followed by a survivor/caregiver lap around the track. At 7:45 p.m., all relay teams will be led around the track by the Yankee Dutchmen Solar Powered Precision Marching Band.
Judging of the relay teams’ decorated campsites will be at 8 p.m. A luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m. will honor those who have battled cancer and their caregivers. The campsite decorating winner will also be announced at this time.
The relay will continue throughout the night and into Saturday morning. Saturday activities include outdoor movies, bingo, a food hut breakfast at 6 a.m. and a balloon release at 10:45 a.m. A “Fight Back” closing ceremony at 11 a.m. will conclude the event.
