Springfield man gets 9 years in heroin death case

September 29, 2014

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A Springfield man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for supplying the heroin that caused another man’s overdose death.

The State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/1DQbwC3 ) Gary Clark was sentenced after pleading guilty to drug-induced homicide and drug delivery charges in the 2012 death of 43-year-old Daniel Buehrle of New Berlin.

County State’s Attorney John Milhiser said Clark acted as a middleman in heroin dealings. He says there is no indication that Clark intended to do harm.

Clark apologized to the victim’s family during the sentencing.

Clark’s mother says he developed a drug problem when the U.S. Army gave him opiates to treat injuries from a fall while serving in Europe.
