NIPSEY HUSSLE MEMORIAL SET FOR THURSDAY AT L.A.’S STAPLE CENTER

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was 10 years ago that the Staples Center hosted a public memorial service for Michael Jackson. Now the arena is holding a similar event for Nipsey Hussle, the rapper who was shot to death late last month. It’s set for Thursday — and tickets began to be distributed online today. Organizers for the event are taking steps to prevent the free tickets from being scalped or transferred. There’s no immediate word on who will be performing at the event.

TAYLOR SWIFT - LGBTQ DISPUTE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Taylor Swift is sending some money to a gay rights group in Tennessee. The Tennessee Equality Project says Swift has donated $113,000 to the organization. The money will help the LGBTQ advocacy group fight a batch of bills moving through the state’s Republican-controlled General Assembly. One such bill would allow adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples.

FLEETWOOD MAC BOWS OUT OF JAZZ FEST; BAND WAS TO REPLACE ROLLING STONES

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Organizers of the New Orleans Jazz Fest had the tough job of trying to find a replacement for the replacement that had stepped in for a headline act. Just last week, event officials said Fleetwood Mac would be filling in for the Rolling Stones after Mick Jagger took ill and the band canceled tour dates. Now, Fleetwood Mac says it will have to cancel because Stevie Nicks is ill. Stepping in for Fleetwood Mac is Widespread Panic. The Jazz Fest is May 2.

LORI LOUGHLIN - COLLEGE SCANDAL

BOSTON (AP) — Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, and 14 other parents were hit with a new money laundering charge in the sweeping college admissions bribery case. Loughlin and Giannulli were among 16 prominent parents indicted Tuesday on a charge of money laundering conspiracy. The parents were arrested last month on a single charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Loughlin and Giannulli have not publicly commented on the allegations. Feds say the couple paid $500,000 to buy her two daughters’ way into USC by having them apply as crew team members, even though they aren’t rowers.

FELICITY HUFFMAN AGREES TO PLEAD GUILTY IN COLLEGE SCAM

BOSTON (AP) — It was one of those “check all the boxes” apologies many in public life wish they could pull off when caught in a scandal. The mea culpa served up by Felicity Huffman touched a nerve with people — even as she touched all the bases with her statement. Huffman said she’d plead guilty in the college admission bribery scam. The actress says she takes full responsibility for her action, says she’s sorry — and is ready to face the consequences. So far, no consequences have befallen Huffman’s hubby, actor William H. Macy. Though federal prosecutors say he took part in talks about the scam, he wasn’t charged — and authorities haven’t said why. Huffman’s statement yesterday didn’t mention him, either.

NETFLIX DELAYS RELEASE OF FELICITY HUFFMAN MOVIE

BOSTON (AP) — Felicity Huffman may be able to escape a stiff prison sentence by copping a plea in the college admissions bribery scandal. But there’s no escaping the consequences imposed on her by her bosses at Netflix. She’s in the romantic comedy “Otherhood” — and it was to drop on April 26. But Netflix says the release is being delayed. No word on when the streaming network will release the movie, which also stars Patricia Arquette and Angela Bassett.

RAPPER BOOSIE BADAZZ FACES DRUG, GUN CHARGES

ATLANTA (AP) — The rapper Boosie Badazz and a passenger were jailed on drug and gun charges after being pulled over south of Atlanta. Coweta County jail records show the 36-year-old rapper faces charges of failing to maintain his lane, drug possession and having a gun during a crime. His real name is Torrence Hatch Jr. The Newnan Times-Herald reports that a Coweta County sheriff’s sergeant stopped a swerving Dodge Charger, then smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle in Newnan on Monday. The sergeant reported that a loaded handgun was found under a seat. The jail identifies Hatch’s passenger as Antonio Pezant Allen and says he’s charged with having drugs and a gun during a crime. Jail records don’t list attorneys who could be contacted for comment on behalf of either man.

ALLISON MACK - GUILTY PLEA

NEW YORK (AP) — Allison Mack says she thought the guru of a cult-like group in New York state wanted to help women — but she now realizes she was wrong. The actress has apologized to women caught up in the scheme — and is admitting her role in an effort to recruit women and turn them into sex slaves. Mack made a statement acknowledging her guilt in a New York City courtroom yesterday. The statement came as jury selection in the federal case against the ringleader begins.

CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA MUSICIANS REJECT CONTRACT DEAL

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra may cancel more concerts after striking musicians rejected what it calls its last, best and final offer on a new contract. Members of the Chicago Federation of Musicians are calling the orchestra’s bluff. They have rejected that “final” proposal, saying it would leave them with salaries lower than those of orchestras in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The musicians have been on strike since March 11 and have received support from members of congress, musical theater performers and their own maestro, renowned Italian conductor Riccardo Muti.

TCM TURNS 25 YEARS ON SUNDAY

NEW YORK (AP) — On Sunday, Turner Classic Movies will turn 25. A quarter of a century ago, Ted Turner launched TCM with a mandate to pull from his library of 4,700 films from MGM, RKO and pre-1950 Warner Bros. A lot — almost everything — has changed in both cable television and film since then. But TCM, humbly, persistently, abides like a lighthouse of classic cinema amid troubled waters: a never-stopping flickering beam of Buster Keaton and Doris Day, Barbara Stanwyck and Ernst Lubitsch. The general manager of TCM, Jennifer Dorian, says “We view ourselves as the keeper of the flame,” and says “We’re stronger than ever.”
