Finns 1-2 in One-Jump Skiing Event
KUOPIO, Finland (AP) _ Finland’s Ville Kantee and Risto Jussilainen finished 1-2 Sunday in a World Cup ski jumping event marred by winds.
Each competitor was limited to one jump. Kantee jumped 117.5 meters for 111 points, while Jussilainen soared 114.5 meters for 105.6 points.
Roberto Cecon of Italy took third with 86.1 points after a 104.5-meter jump, followed by World Cup champion Martin Schmitt of Germany, who had 81 points after jumping 102.5 meters.
Schmitt, who won the season opener Saturday, and Hideharu Miyahira of Japan were the only jumpers to finish in the top 10 both days. Miyahira was sixth and ninth.
Schmitt leads the World Cup standings with 150 points. Kantee is second with 122, and Austria’s Andrew Goldberger third with 95. Goldberger, a three-time World Cup champion, was second Saturday, but only 17th Sunday.
Finland’s Janne Ahonen, the World Cup runner-up last time, had a dismal start to the season, placing 37th and 66th.
