GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Star free agent Reggie White gave himself 10 days Thursday to choose an NFL team that might offer him a four-year contract.

White, a perennial All-Pro, made $1.625 million last year and reportedly is looking for $3 million to $4 million annually.

White said he will visit Washington and the New York Jets and maybe Phoenix, hoping to make a decision ''next weekend or the beginning of the week after.''

He talked with Detroit, Atlanta and Cleveland before flying to Green Bay.

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive end, an unrestricted free agent eagerly sought by many teams, on Thursday spent a second day with the Green Bay Packers.

White, the only player in NFL history with more sacks (124) than games played (121), said he visited Green Bay mostly because he likes coach Mike Holmgren and was more impressed with the Packers than he'd expected.

''I really never, as a player, considered Green Bay,'' he said. ''I've been very impressed since I've been here, surprisingly impressed, with the organization and the little bit of the community I've seen.

''I'm really surprised at how much my attitude has somewhat changed concerning Green Bay. Now the decision has become a little tougher.''

White, an ordained clergyman, had said Wednesday he wants to work in a city where he can serve as a role model for inner-city youth. Green Bay doesn't have inner-city problems, but nearby Milwaukee does, he said.

He repeated Thursday his belief that the Packers' budget can compete with the salary offers of other teams.

''From what my (agent) told me, their offer was right at what we wanted, and even more,'' he said. ''That just proves to me that this team is serious.''

''The financial end of it is the least of my worries because I know we'll compete,'' Holmgren said. ''Those things will get taken care of if we want the player and the player wants us.'' He made $1.625 million last year and reportedly is looking for $3 million to $4 million annually.
