Emergency response exercise to take place at airport
CEREDO — Huntington Tri-State Airport will be the host site of a mock plane crash Saturday, May 18. The emergency response exercise will take place at the Air National Guard at about 9 a.m. Saturday.
The exercise, which is conducted every three years, is designed to keep emergency response crews informed on how to respond in the event of a plane crash, while also measuring response times from each agency answering the radio calls.
Confirmed participants include police departments from Ceredo and Kenova, as well as West Virginia State Police and Marathon Gas. In addition to emergency responders, airport officials confirmed that as many as 40 students from Wayne High and Middle schools will act as mock victims in the exercise, with several being taken out by ambulance and at least one potentially being airlifted by helicopter.
