Four for February at Nashoba Tech
WESTFORD -- Jillian Farrar of Shirley and Brandon Gauthier of Chelmsford have been selected as January’s Athletes of the Month at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.
Jillian Farrar, daughter of Cory and Camille Farrar, is a senior in the Culinary Arts program. She is an honor-roll student and competes for Nashoba Tech’s SkillsUSA team.
Jill was captain of the Culinary team that placed third at the recent statewide ProStart Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Restaurant Association and held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. As captain, she was in charge of costing out all the ingredients, writing the recipes, and making sure her four teammates were on schedule. She has been manager of the football team for two years. Jill enjoys the baking aspects of Culinary Arts and plans to continue working after graduation for Bisousweet Confections in her hometown of Shirley.
Jill was nominated by Science Instructor Dave McCloskey, who wrote: “Jill has been in my science classes for three years, and she is one of the most conscientious students I’ve ever had. She shows effort every day in class and is a model student. I have also seen her work tirelessly in Culinary, especially over the holiday season, cranking out cookies for the platters offered during the holidays.”
Brendan Gauthier, son of Mike Gauthier and Ann Marie Fyten, is a senior in the Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing program. He is an honor-roll student and president of the National Technical Honor Society.
Brandon plays baseball for the Vikings and works full time every other week for A Plus Auto Body in Chelmsford through Nashoba Tech’s Cooperative Education program. He is helpful during Open House showing prospective students and their parents around and asking questions they have about his technical
program. He also assisted the school’s building and grounds staff last summer with everyday maintenance. Brandon plans to continue working for A Plus after graduation.
Brandon was nominated by Spanish Instructor Stacy Stevens, who wrote: “Brandon jumped into Spanish 3 after taking a year off and works very hard in class. He is helpful and polite, always ready to do the next thing and uses his time effectively. He sets an excellent example for the class full of sophomores that he’s in this year.”
Shelby Kirk of Pepperell and Donald Fraser of Chelmsford are the Athletes of the Month at Nashoba Tech.
Shelby Kirk, daughter of John and Kristen Kirk, is a two-season varsity cheerleader and softball player. She was nominated by cheerleading Coach Ed Doherty, who wrote, “We had an athlete get injured about two weeks ago, and Shelby stepped up and learned a whole new routine to replace the position that the injured athlete had. She learned the whole routine within about seven practices. She always has a positive attitude and works hard at every practice.”
Shelby is an honor-roll student in the Health Assisting program. She is also a competitive auto racer.
Donald Fraser, son of Donald and Jean Fraser, is a junior wrestler who finished 27-3 in matches this winter, placed second at the Tyngsboro Tournament, second in the State Vocational Championship, then went on to win the District Championship and will compete in the All-State Tournament.
DJ is an honor-roll student in the Electrical Technology program. He also plays football and baseball for the Vikings. Wrestling Coach Bill Corr called his captain a great leader who works hard.
