Bus Driver Accused of Dumping Passengers, Leaving Accident Scene

February 21, 1986

NEW YORK (AP) _ A veteran driver ordered passengers off a city bus and drove away after an accident, leaving a bleeding bicycle messenger lying at the curbside, police charged.

Harry M. Nelson, 42, of N.J., was booked Thursday on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with physical injury, said police Lt. Peter Botte.

The victim of Thursday’s accident at 50th Street and Third Avenue was identified as Lionel Greene, 19, said Sgt. Tina Mohrmann, a police spokeswoman. He received stitches in his forehead, and was admitted for observation, according to Jed Golden, administrator on duty at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

The bus later was driven to a depot, said Transit Authority spokesman John Cunningham. It was not known how many passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident.
