Sheriff: Teen killed in dispute over video game sale

February 28, 2018

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina sheriff says a teen’s shooting death last week came in a robbery attempt that was supposed to be the simple sale of a video game device.

Media outlets reported Richland County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 16-year-old in the Sunday shooting death of 14-year-old Tiquan Taylor of Irmo.

The sheriff’s department said the 16-year-old is charged with murder, attempted armed robbery and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

Coroner Gary Watts said Taylor died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The sheriff’s department said the suspect had made arrangements to buy the game device and a fight started when he tried to rob the seller.

Sheriff Leon Lott called the shooting over a video game device a senseless crime that affected too many lives.
