Sheriff’s sergeant arrested on assault charge
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County sheriff’s sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.
The News Tribune reports 48-year-ol Robert Carpenter was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool told the newspaper she couldn’t provide specific details regarding the circumstances that led to the arrest.
Cool says it is being treated as an active and ongoing investigation.
He hasn’t yet been charged.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says Carpenter would be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
Cool says the Thurston County prosecutors would handle the case.
It wasn’t immediately known if Carpenter had obtained an attorney.
