LeBron motivated by Jordan...Fisher hopes to play in Stanley Cup finals...Pirates beat Braves
BOSTON (AP) — LeBron James says his chase of Michael Jordan’s accomplishments is simply personal motivation. The Cleveland superstar is 28 points shy of overtaking Jordan as the postseason’s leading scorer. With 40 more points, he could also become the first player in NBA history to score 6,000 points in the playoffs. James spoke during this morning’s shootaround in Boston before the Cavaliers play the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals. Cleveland leads the series 3-1.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville captain Mike Fisher says he feels a lot better and his goal is to be available during the Stanley Cup finals. Fisher skated with his teammates today for the first time since he was injured May 18 late in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. The Predators will play the winner of tonight’s Game 7 in Pittsburgh between the Penguins and the Ottawa Senators.
ATLANTA (AP) — Ivan Nova pitched into the ninth inning, Adam Frazier hit a three-run homer and the Pittsburgh Pirates pounded Bartolo Colon for a 9-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves. The Pirates split the four-game series at SunTrust Park after losing the first two contests.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed linebacker Gerald Hodges, who started 12 games for San Francisco last season. Hodges is going into his fifth season after being drafted in 2013 by the Minnesota Vikings. He played two-plus seasons with Minnesota before joining the 49ers. He had 83 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble last year.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky grand jury has declined to indict an escort and former Louisville men’s basketball staffer in a sex scandal that engulfed the program. The Jefferson County grand jury decided there wasn’t enough evidence for charges of prostitution and unlawful transactions with a minor against Katina Powell and Andre McGee. Louisville is awaiting discipline by the NCAA in early June. The school has imposed its own penalties, including a postseason ban in 2015-16.
