19 face drug trafficking charges in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Nineteen people have been charged in Puerto Rico on charges of conspiring to import heroin from South America into the U.S. territory, authorities said Tuesday.
U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said the suspects would hide the heroin in suitcases or send it from Venezuela and Colombia to Puerto Rico through the U.S. Postal Service. She said money from drug sales would be sent through electronic wire transfers from Puerto Rico to Colombia, while sometimes the money was transported to Venezuela.
She said the group operated from August 2012 to about April 2013.
