Early Burst Carries Pens
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins finally broke their four-game streak of allowing the first goal on Saturday night.
And the goals kept coming right after they did so.
Thomas Di Pauli, Derek Grant and Teddy Blueger all scored in the opening 4:31 of play, and the Penguins cruised from there to a 4-1 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack at XL Center.
Anthony Peters made 31 saves in net for his fourth victory, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton improved to 7-4-1-1 this season.
Di Pauli got the Penguins rolling after a nice keep-in by Will O’Neill allowed the puck to bounce behind the net of Hartford netminder Dustin Tokarski. Anthony Angello chased it down and fed a cutting Di Pauli in the slot, giving him his first goal of the season at 1:50.
Under two minutes later, Grant pursued a loose puck and threw a shot toward the net. The puck hit a defender and slid by Tokarski.
Di Pauli had three points and Blueger two. Jimmy Hayes added a goal in the second period. They were named the game’s three stars.
It was the second time in as many weekends Wilkes-Barre/Scranton beat Tokarski, whose Hartford team dipped to 5-8-1-2.
The Penguins will complete their three-in-three weekend today with a 3:05 p.m. puck drop against the Providence Bruins at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
