COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) _ An arrest warrant has been issued for a Sri Lankan man who left his wife after winning $50,000 in a lottery and fled the country when she claimed part of the money, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Ruwan Sampath, a 24-year-old construction worker who was earning about $4 a day when he won the jackpot in April, left his wife of two years just two weeks after winning, the Lankadipa newspaper reported.

Sampath sneaked out of the country when his spouse, Dushyanthi Padmasiri, 22, asked a judge to force him to pay maintenance, her lawyers said at a court in Attanagalle, 20 northeast of the capital, Colombo.

A judge had earlier forbidden Sampath to leave the country while the case was pending. His wife's lawyers said he left the Indian Ocean island nation in September, but they did not know where he had gone.
