NEPTUNE, N.J. (AP) — A pit bull that had already attacked a man's wife attacked and seriously injured a 10-year-old boy and three adults on Tuesday before one of the victims' relatives corralled it, authorities said.

The attack occurred at an apartment complex in Neptune.

Authorities said a man had agreed to take possession of a friend's dog on Monday and took it to his sister's apartment. The friend made the request because the dog had attacked his wife, authorities said.

When the man's 10-year-old nephew asked to see the dog, it attacked him and bit him on the arm. The man and his sister were attacked when they tried to help the boy.

The dog then ran out of the apartment and attacked a woman who had just dropped off her infant at her nephew's apartment. The nephew heard his aunt's screams and went out and restrained the dog.

The four seriously injured victims were being treated at a hospital, but authorities said none of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening. The nephew refused treatment for his injuries.

Police turned the dog over to animal control officials. They will review the attacks and determine whether the dog poses a danger to the public and should be euthanized.
