Norfolk woman leading the pack in bicycle race through Black Hills
NORFOLK - A Norfolk woman is leading the pack in a 440-mile Bikepacking Race through the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming.
Rhonda Wright of Norfolk began her journey Monday as ten riders started their trek.
Sara Sohl, a friend of Rhonda’s says the riders are given a map and the rest is on their own.
“You start and you have your sleeping gear, your food gear, you can take money with you, and you literally ride a bike through the mountains to get to where you’re going. It’s a survival thing and she’s out there all by herself and she has the equipment for any bike repairs. She does have means to contact people that are close by if there’s an emergency or anything like that” Sohl said
She says Rhona is also over two hours ahead of her finish time last year.
