Tonight: Spring ISD Board of Trustees to discuss tax rate, new middle school, Dual Language Program
During the work session on Oct. 4, the Spring ISD board of trustees will discuss several key items including the property tax rate, a bid package for Middle School No. 8, and the developing Dual Language Program.
The board will consider approving a $1.51 per $100 of assessed value tax rate for the 2018 tax year, according to the meeting agenda. This would keep the tax rate equal with the previous year’s tax rate.
Two bid packages will be discussed, including Bid Package 4 for Middle School No. 8 and Bid Package A for safety and security. The fourth guaranteed maximum price for Middle School No. 8 is $20,177,877 while the first GMP for safety and security is $3,638,912. Both bond packages will be discussed during the meeting.
According to the agenda, principals from three Spring ISD schools implementing the Dual Language Program will provide board members with an update on the project. The program encourages young students to become bilingual by teaching English speaking students Spanish, as well as offering instruction for both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking students.
The work session for the Spring ISD Board of Trustees will occur on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Gordon M. Anderson Leadership Center.
