UNDATED (AP) — Gonzaga is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25, leapfrogging Kansas after winning the Maui Invitational. The Bulldogs were third in last week’s poll and moved ahead of No. 2 Kansas following Wednesday’s thrilling win over former No. 1 Duke in the Maui title game. Gonzaga received 32 first-place votes from a 65-person media panel in the poll released Monday, edging Kansas by one.
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul is out for Monday night’s game against the Washington Wizards with a sore left leg. It’s the second consecutive game Paul has missed. He sat out Saturday’s game in Cleveland after playing 37 minutes in an overtime win in Detroit the night before.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars sacked offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and quarterback Blake Bortles one day after the team’s seventh consecutive loss. Coach Doug Marrone fired Hackett and benched Bortles on Monday, making sweeping changes to one of the league’s worst offenses. Marrone also promoted quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich to offensive coordinator.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Reds closer Raisel Iglesias will get $6 million in the first year of his three-year contract with Cincinnati that guarantees $24,125,000. Iglesias will receive $9 million in 2020 and $9,125,000 in 2021. His new deal replaces a $27 million, seven-year agreement reached in 2014 that allowed him to void the remainder of the deal once he was eligible for salary arbitration. That agreement called for $5 million salaries in each of the next two seasons.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey wants the athletic directors from Mississippi and Mississippi State to meet him in the league office to discuss “creating a healthier environment” for the annual Egg Bowl matchup. Mississippi State’s 38-3 victory over Ole Miss in Thursday night’s Egg Bowl included a fight that resulted in four ejections. Every player on both teams received an unsportsmanlike penalty because of the fight.
