Imus Sues for Water Rights Deposit
LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) _ Don Imus is suing to reclaim $10,000 he deposited for water rights for his children’s ranch. State officials said the rights don’t exist.
The lawsuit was filed against George and Francis Gusler of Ribera. They allegedly agreed to sell the rights to Imus, then refused to return the deposit when the state rejected the transfer.
Neither Gusler nor Imus attorney John Silver would comment.
The lawsuit was filed about a month ago. The Guslers filed a response last week denying that they had promised to refund the money if the transfer was denied.
Imus had wanted the water rights for the 3,000-acre New Mexico ranch that began accepting sick children this summer. He has since said the ranch doesn’t need the additional water.
